1. What HushRead Does

HushRead provides a Chrome browser extension, an iOS mobile app, and a backend service that:

• Extracts article content from web pages you choose to process
• Provides in-app reading with tap-to-reveal paragraph translation and an AI contextual glossary
• Converts article content into EPUB format optimized for e-ink displays
• Optionally translates article content into your language of choice

HushRead is a personal reading tool. It does not host, store, or redistribute article content.

2. Chrome Extension — Terms of Use

Distribution

The HushRead Chrome Extension is distributed exclusively through the Chrome Web Store. Do not install the extension from any other source. Sideloaded or modified versions of the extension are not supported and may violate these Terms.

Account required

A valid HushRead account in good standing is required to use the extension. The extension authenticates using a personal API key generated from your HushRead account dashboard — not via browser cookies. Extension features are subject to your plan's usage limits (see section 5).

Acceptable use — extension-specific

In addition to the general Acceptable Use rules in section 6, you agree NOT to:

• Automate extension actions via Selenium, Puppeteer, browser automation scripts, or any similar tooling
• Modify, decompile, or reverse-engineer the extension
• Redistribute, repackage, or publish a modified version of the extension
• Attempt to intercept, replay, or tamper with extension-to-backend communication
• Use the extension to process content you do not have the right to use

Chrome Web Store policies

Your use of the extension is also subject to the Google Chrome Web Store Terms of Service and the Chrome Extensions Program Policies. HushRead complies with all Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies.

Extension availability & updates

The extension requires an active internet connection and access to the HushRead backend. It auto-updates via the Chrome Web Store. We may update, modify, or discontinue extension features at any time. Significant changes — especially any changes to permissions — will be announced in the Changelog before the update is published.

3. Mobile App — Terms of Use

Distribution

The HushRead mobile app is distributed exclusively through the Apple App Store. Do not install the app from any other source. By downloading the app, you also agree to Apple's Standard End User License Agreement (EULA), which governs app usage alongside these Terms.

Authentication

The mobile app supports Sign in with Google and Sign in with Apple. A valid HushRead account in good standing is required to use the app. App features are subject to your plan's usage limits (see section 5).

Account deletion

You can request account deletion directly from the mobile app settings. When you submit a deletion request:

• Your account is flagged for deletion
• All account data is permanently deleted within 30 days
• If you log back in during this 30-day window, the deletion request is automatically cancelled and your account is fully restored

Acceptable use — mobile-specific

In addition to the general Acceptable Use rules in section 6, you agree NOT to:

• Automate app actions via scripts, jailbreak exploits, or any similar tooling
• Modify, decompile, or reverse-engineer the app
• Attempt to intercept or tamper with app-to-backend communication

App availability & updates

The mobile app requires an active internet connection. Updates are distributed via the App Store. We may update, modify, or discontinue app features at any time. Significant changes will be announced in the Changelog.

4. Accounts & Eligibility

• You must be at least 13 years old to use HushRead
• You agree to provide accurate and up-to-date information
• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account

5. Service Tiers & Usage Limits

• Quota resets on the 1st of each month at 00:00 UTC
• Unused quota does not carry over

* Subject to Fair Use Policy (section 7). High-volume automated usage may be throttled.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree to use HushRead for personal, non-commercial reading only.

You must NOT:

• Circumvent paywalls
• Redistribute converted content
• Automate usage (bots, scripts, Selenium, Puppeteer, etc.)
• Share accounts with other users
• Abuse translation for bulk processing unrelated to personal reading
• Reverse-engineer or exploit the Service
• Overload or stress-test the system
• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose

7. Fair Use Policy

Why this matters

Translation uses paid third-party AI services. Abuse increases costs and degrades quality for all users. HushRead is built for readers, not robots.

Abuse includes

• Exceeding monthly article or translation limits through account sharing or multiple accounts
• Excessive daily usage suggesting automation
• Repeated duplicate submissions
• Submitting non-article content (HTML dumps, raw code, etc.)
• Creating multiple accounts to bypass limits
• Sending more than 10 requests within 5 minutes

We allow natural spikes in usage. If you have legitimate high-volume needs, contact us at [email protected].

8. Content & Copyright

You are responsible for ensuring you have the legal right to use the content you process through HushRead.

HushRead:

• Processes publicly accessible content at your explicit request
• Does NOT host, cache, or redistribute article content
• Discards article content immediately after processing

9. Payments & Subscriptions

Subscriptions are billed on a recurring monthly basis through Apple's App Store, managed via RevenueCat. Billing continues until you cancel.

Billing policies:

• Cancel anytime; access continues until the end of the current billing period
• No prorated refunds for partial months
• Refunds may be issued for billing errors or extended service outages at our discretion
• Price changes will be communicated with a minimum of 30 days notice

To cancel, go to iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → HushRead. Apple's standard refund and billing policies apply to all purchases made through the App Store.

10. Product Updates & Versioning

HushRead v1.0 is generally available as of April 2026. We may release updates that:

• Add, modify, or remove features
• Adjust usage limits or plan inclusions
• Update the Chrome Extension or iOS app

Significant changes to pricing or core functionality will be communicated via email or in-app notice. All changes are logged in the Changelog.

11. Service Availability

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Downtime may occur due to maintenance, infrastructure issues, or third-party failures (OpenAI, Apple, Google, RevenueCat, Sentry). We are not liable for delays or unavailability outside our reasonable control.

12. Account Termination

By you

• Request deletion from the mobile app settings, or by emailing [email protected]
• Upon request, your account is flagged and data is permanently deleted within 30 days
• If you log back in during the 30-day window, the deletion is automatically cancelled and your account is restored

By us

We may suspend or terminate accounts if you:

• Violate these Terms
• Abuse the Service or Fair Use Policy
• Engage in illegal activity
• Attempt to bypass usage limits or circumvent billing

Severe violations may result in immediate termination without prior notice.

13. Intellectual Property

All rights to HushRead belong to HushRead, including the brand, codebase, and design system. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the Service.

Open-source libraries used by HushRead (including Readability.js and Turndown.js) are governed by their respective open-source licenses.

14. Disclaimer of Warranties

HushRead is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

We do not guarantee:

• Error-free or uninterrupted operation
• Perfect article extraction from all websites
• Accurate or complete translations
• Consistent EPUB rendering across all e-reader devices and firmware versions

15. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, HushRead's total liability for any claim arising from or related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid to HushRead in the 12 months preceding the claim.

We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data or loss of profits.

16. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by applicable law. Any disputes will be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation fails, disputes will be subject to binding arbitration or the jurisdiction of a mutually agreed court.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

18. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid under applicable law, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or severed if modification is not possible. The remaining Terms will continue in full force and effect.
